Unique places, structures and natural phenomenons make up our world's heritage. They are monuments of one country, nation or culture, but they belong to all of human race equally. United Nations' UNESCO has set as one of its main missions identification and protection of such world heritage sites. This mission has been formaly embodied in the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, adopted by UNESCO in 1972.
